School Year Reminders

• Morning drop-off on Monday-Wednesday and Friday is 8:30 AM.  Supervision is not available before that time. Please try to send your student to school between 8:30-8:45 AM.
• Each Thursday our school will have a late start. School begins at 9:30 AM, with drop-off beginning at 9:15 AM. Please send your student to school between 9:15-9:30 AM, as there is no outside supervision before that time.

• As has been the case for some time, we are asking parents to not send in birthday treats for the class. We appreciate your support!

Flower Fundraiser Pickup Times Announced

Great news! Our flower fundraiser products will be delivered to North School on Monday, May 2, 2022. Flower pickup times have been set for 2:30-5:30 PM.

Spring Book Fair Continues Online

The Scholastic Book Fair will be at our school April 25-29, 2022!

Support our school by shopping at The Scholastic Store Online for an expanded selection of exclusives, new releases, value packs, and more. All online orders ship home and book-only orders over $25 ship free. Every purchase benefits our school and helps develop a love of reading.

Thank you to our librarian, Mrs. Dempsey, and to our many volunteers for making our in-person event possible. 

Online Registration — Closes Soon!

Online registration for returning families for the 2022-2023 school year is now available via the Campus Portal.   The Online Registration application is a simple process that should take between 10 and 15 minutes. All current students must be registered by the last day of school or you will be dropped from the system and will have to re-register by proving residency. If you experience any difficulties with any portion of the process, please email registrar@syc427.org or call the District’s Registrar at (815) 899-8100. If you do not have access to a computer or internet, you can complete the online registration application by visiting the District’s Administration Center during normal business hours.

Are You Moving? 

We are now in the process of planning for next year. It is important for us to know about any changes in enrollment so we may plan class sizes, among other things, accordingly. If you are planning to move prior to the next school year (or if your student will be attending another school), please reply to this email with one of the statements below and your new address:

• Yes, we are planning to move and will stay in the North School boundaries
• Yes, we are planning to move and will stay within Sycamore School District
• Yes, we are planning to move outside of the Sycamore School District.

Spring Benchmark Testing

Beginning this week and occurring for the next few weeks, students will be completing their spring benchmark assessments. The third round of Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) will start. We use the MAP assessments to determine your child's instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year. These online tests focus on the areas of reading, fluency, and math and they adapt to be appropriate for your child's level of learning.

Next week, our kindergarten students will be taking their end-of-the-year ISEL assessments one-on-one with their teacher or our reading interventionist. 

A schedule of specific testing times will be shared by your child’s classroom teacher. Assessment results will be available at the time of progress reports.

The Final Say — A Word From Mr. Franks

A big thank you to all of our parents for their help supporting our Fun Fair.   We had a great turn-out!  We greatly appreciate all the soda, basket, and dessert donations, as well as the participation.   

This week we take time to honor all of our North School staff during Staff/Teacher Appreciation Week.   We have a staff dedicated to student success in all areas of their life.  Our staff are life-long learners, adapting skills and content into interesting and relevant activities for all students.   They are passionate about what they do and I am so proud of the people they are and what they bring to our school community. Please join me in appreciating all of our teachers, paraeducators, secretarial and health staff, related service personnel, custodians, lunch and recess supervisors, and others that work every day to make our school a better place.
